| Significance | Whit Sunday and Monday, or Pentecost, celebrates the descent of the Holy Ghost, as documented in the Book of Acts. On this day the Holy Spirit visited the disciples and inspired them to go out and preach the word of Christ. For this reason the day is celebrated as the anniversary of the birth of the Christian church. Pentecost, which in Greek, means the fiftieth day takes place 50 days after Easter, which is the Jewish feast of Shavuot. Whit Sunday is observed on the seventh Sunday after Easter. |
